March 7th, students from our Civic Champion class at Why Not You Academy visited the Federal Way City Council during their monthly meeting. Students from the program spoke during public comment and presented their letters to city council.
As an activity from our Civic Champion curriculum, our students selected a component of the criminal justice, education, or healthcare system that affected them, their families, or communities. Students were then tasked to create a letter to local public government leaders with statistics relevant to the component they selected and end with an action item for community members in attendance or the city council. We are so proud of young leaders showing up for their community!
