Build 2 Lead is all about system-wide change. We advocate for underserved and historically limited communities in order to create better outcomes for all.
"Civic Champions", a Build 2 Lead program for middle and high school youth, is a building block in our goal to educate, provide opportunities, and encourage community engagement and advocacy. Built by BIPOC middle and high school teachers along-side civic leaders, Civic Champions offers youth-centric training that focuses on preparing the leaders of of tomorrow through culturally relevant civic-engagement curriculum.
Civic Champions is currently serving 35 students in our partner schools and has a waitlist of more than 20 youth! The B2L partner schools have the highest diversity in their districts and have over 60% of students on free or reduced lunch. Our Civic Champions participate in workshops that focus on the importance of community advocacy, foundational understanding of the criminal justice, education and healthcare systems, the 3-levels of government, and policy creation.
By offering these programs, we aim to create whole system change by educating and preparing our youth to be future leaders and community advocates who strive to change the system and create better outcomes for all.
